UNIONTOWN,PA- In an extremely hard fought game, the tenth-seeded Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions upset the second-seeded and two-time defending champion Andrews University Cardinals 67-61.
With just 1:39 left in the game, the Penn State Fayette Roaring Lions held a one-point advantage. The Cardinals had a chance to tie the game and even take the lead but were unable to capitalize on a pair of free throws from USCAA All-American Matthew Little. On the second missed free throw, Jerome Murray grabbed the offensive rebound but was unable to convert the layup with 0:52 seconds left in the game. On the ensuing possession sophomore forward Dierre Jenkins hit a clutch 3-pointer from the corner with just 0:17 seconds left to seal the victory for the Roaring Lions.
Second Team USCAA All-American Brandon Cunningham led Fayette and all scorers with 22 points (8-18). David Winns tallied another double-double (13 points and 14 rebounds) for the Roaring Lions. Andrews' big three Jerome Murray (17 points), Matthew Little (15 points), and Tyler Wooldridge (13 points) all reached double figures. The Cardinals held the advantage on the boards 43-32 but it was no match for Penn State Fayette's hot second half shooting (54.5%). The Roaring Lions will advance to the semi-finals where they will take on the Knights of Berkeley College (NY).
