UNIONTOWN, PA - In one of several upsets on the first day of the USCAA Basketball National Championships, the defending Men's Division I National Champions, Rochester College, fell to The Apprentice School, 72-63.
The Rochester College Warriors led 30-19 with two minutes remaining in the first half before The Apprentice School Builders went on an 8-0 run to close the half and bring the game to within three. The Builders would finally take a lead they wouldn't relinquish with just less than 10 minutes left in the second half. Apprentice was paced by Johnnie Ferebee with 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Also chipping in for the Builders was Lance Darden with 14 points and Jamal Curry with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Stavros Schizas led the Warriors with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
The Apprentice School Builders will advance to take on #6 Tennessee Temple University on Thursday at 10:00 PM in the Main Arena in the Men's Division I semifinals. Rochester College will face off against Victory University at 10:00 AM in Main Arena consolation action against Victory University.
