IN BRIEF: The second and third seeds in the Men's Division I bracket met up for a late-night semifinal matchup in the Main Arena of Penn State Fayette. Led by the trio of Joshua Stallworth (20 points, 9 rebounds), Shaquille Duncan (15 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks), and Jamie Washington (16 points, 5 assists), Concordia College Alabama defeated Washington Adventist University to advance to the Men's Division I National Championship game.
ON THE COURT
- The tone of the first four minutes of the game was set by USCAA Men's Division I Player of the Year Brian Bridgeforth of Washington Adventist University. Bridgeforth had two points, two rebounds, and three blocks for a Shock team that led 7-4 early.
- After trading baskets throughout those early minutes, Concordia College Alabama opened up a 21-13 lead at the ten minute mark in the half. Washington Adventist bounced back to finish the half on an 18-9 run and close the deficit to one at halftime.
- The Hornets had chances to pull away in the second half but Washington Adventist never allowed the lead to grow to more than eight before battling back. The Shock would claw back to take the lead on a Tyrus Fleetwood three-pointer with under five minutes left to play, staking first lead in the game since the 13 minute mark in the first half.
- From the 7:39 mark to the 5:00 mark in the second half Fleetwood scored 11 straight points for the Shock, nearly single-handedly putting his team in position for a close finish.
- Following Fleetwood's outburst, Stallworth would tack on four straight points for the Hornets to reclaim the lead. Duncan, Washington, and Kendrick Atwood would add buckets down the stretch to keep Concordia's edge and ensure their advancement to Men's Division I finals.
BEHIND THE BOXSCORE
- Playing through foul trouble for most of the contest, Bridgeforth scored 11 points and added 7 rebounds during the game. Playing just 26 minutes due to foul trouble, Bridgeforth was mostly neutralized down the stretch while playing with four fouls.
- As a team, the Hornets shot over 48% from the floor. Stallworth was 10-16 during the game and Shaquille Duncan dominated in the low post with a 7-10 effort. After scoring 16 points in the first game of the tournament, Atwood went just 1-8 from the field on Thursday.
- Taking some of the pressure off Atwood was Ryan Watkins. After playing just two minutes in the quarterfinals, Ryan Watkins went 4-4 (3-3 from behind the arc) on the game and chipped in 12 points.
- Tyrus Fleetwood had one of the best individual games of the tournament in the losing effort. Fleetwood tallied 28 points on 10-21 shooting and added 10 rebounds during the contest.
