Uniontown, PA – Kicking off the second day of action at the 2013 USCAA Basketball National Championships the Virginia University of Lynchburg Lady Dragons defeated the University of Maine-Fort Kent Lady Bengals by a score of 63-35.
Ebony Miller tallied a double-double, leading the Lady Dragons with 16 points (6-13) and 14 rebounds. Diamynde Daniel added 14 points (5-8), eight rebounds, and three steals. Despite another tough game shooting the ball (29.6%), Virginia-Lynchburg outworked the Lady Bengals on the boards grabbing 58 rebounds and tallying 19 second chance points. The fifth-seeded Lady Dragons forced 22 Maine-Fort Kent turnovers and capitalized on them with 23 points.
The eight-seeded Lady Bengals, missing Honorable Mention All-American Jennifer Colpitts, struggled again to get anything going offensively. Kayla Richards scored six points (3-8) and grabbed eight rebounds to lead University of Maine-Fort Kent. Even the charity stripe was unkind to the Lady Bengals, finishing with only 10-26 (38.5%) free-throws converted and unable to capitalize on 20 Lady Dragon fouls. Samantha Carapellucc tallied nine rebounds and Taylor Boucher added eight points for the Bengals in the losing effort.
