Uniontown, PA – In the Men's Division II basketball consolation bracket the Vermont Tech Knights defeated the Albany College of Pharmacy Panthers 72-57. The seventh-seeded Knights rebounded from a tough opening round loss to Penn State Fayette on Wednesday by grabbing an early lead and cruising to victory.
Vermont Tech, the seven seed, was led by Brandon Matano with 26 points (8-18) and Alex Tyrrell with 23 points (9-15), eight rebounds, and seven assists. Josh Lindsey chipped in 15 points for a Knights team that shot 46.7% from the field and 41.7% from the three-point line.
The Panthers received 12 points and seven boards from Emmanuel Okafor off the bench, 10 points from Casey Redfern and 10 rebounds from Steven Brown in the contest. Albany College of Pharmacy edged Vermont Tech in the rebounding margin 41-39 and tallied 32 points in the paint. As a team the Panthers shot 36.4% from the field.
