#1 Central Maine CC 78 - #8 Penn State Fayette 86
UNIONTOWN,PA- For the first time since the USCAA Basketball National Championships moved to Penn State Fayette the Roaring Lions have advanced in the winners bracket by defeating the Central Maine Community College Mustangs 86-78.
Heading into the game the 22-4 Mustangs were on a six-time winning streak and were first in the USCAA in points per game (19.5) and assists per game (21.6) and earned the number one overall seed in the Women's Division II basketball bracket. USCAA All-American Maggie Sabine led the Mustangs and all scorers with 26 poins (10-24) while hauling in 14 rebounds in the game. Freshman forward Nohemy Aguilla gave Central Maine a spark off the bench tallying 17 points (7-11).
Second-Team USCAA All-American Kasey Ruble came up big for Fayette at the free-throw line, going 6-6 in the final minute to add to her 26 point and 14 rebound performance. Ruble was one of five Roaring Lions to reach double figures in the game. Penn State Fayette forced 22 Mustang turnovers and turned them into 25 points. The Roaring Lions took the lead with 11:43 left in the second half and would not relinquish it despite Central Maine leading the stat sheet in field goal percentage, rebounds, and assists. Penn State Fayette will advance to play the Berkeley College-New York Lady Knights on Friday, March 1st at 7:00 PM in the Women's Division II semi-finals.
