UNIONTOWN, PA- The University of Cincinnati-Clermont Cougars came away with an 80-49 win against the University of Maine-Machias Lady Clippers in consolation bracket action on Friday afternoon. The Cougars, though down early, led for most of the game.
Maine-Machias got off to a decent start in the game and lead 18-14 halfway through the first half. The Cougars made a push in the latter part of the half and had taken the lead 38-21 by halftime. The Lady Clippers leaned heavily on sophomore guard Samira Cruz who had 19 of the team's 21 first half points before finishing with 21 points for the game. Besides Cruz, Maine-Machias struggled from the field, going 1-15 in the first half.
UC Clermont continued to play well in the second half and secured the victory by outscoring the Lady Clippers 42-28 in the second stanza. Marisa Stutz paced the Cougars with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds. Ashley Keith added a balanced game and recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. As a team UC Clermont shot 13-16 from the free-throw line and won the rebounding battle 49-40.
