UNIONTOWN,PA- The second-seeded Penn State Beaver Lady Lions defeated seventh-seeded University of Maine Machias Lady Clippers 66-53.
Maine Machias was led by the 22 point 7 rebound performance of USCAA All-American Samira Cruz and the 15 point 8 rebound effort of USCAA All-American Honorable Mention Yvanessa Vincent. Maine Machias led most of the contest until 7:45 left in the second half. From that point on Penn State Beaver wouldn't relinquish the lead, closing out the game on a 21-11 run.
Freshman guard Morgan Kurtz led the way for the Lady Lions with 19 points (6-17) and 6 rebounds. Beaver's persistance attacking the basket ended up being the difference in the game scoring 42 of their 66 points from the paint. Beaver will face off against the Lady Panthers of Albany College of Pharmacy Friday, March 1 in the Main Arena.
